Do you own a cat? Are you in to BDSM? There may just be a connection!

Do you have a cute little kitty at home? Maybe more than one? Do you also love to be tied up, bent over and spanked? Well, according to scientists Jaroslav Flegr and Radim Kuba, it is very possible that that these two loves are intertwined. Sounds weird doesn’t it? How do these cute little furry creatures influence your interest in sadomasochism? How is it that your pets can possibly change your sexual fantasies? Well the answer is that cats carry a parasite called Toxoplasma Gondii and this parasite can be passed on to humans. These parasites are so-called manipulators and are known to alter behaviours within their hosts that are meant to benefit their own fitness.

Parasites? Sounds scary!

These tiny little parasites that are passed on from cats are manipulators in that they often do actually alter the way you perceive the world around you. The original experiment that revealed this was done on rats and mice. As we all know these are cats’ natural prey. So, as you’d expect, rats and mice are generally afraid of cats. I mean, who wants to get murdered and eaten right? Well, they infected the rodents with toxoplasma gondii, who then developed toxoplasmosis. When infected with toxoplasmosis the host then begins to get confused differentiating between fear and sexual arousal. Maybe confused is not the correct term, but basically the part of the brain that recognises sexual arousal also gets triggered when the subject is feeling fear or in danger. Weird, right? But that’s the effect this tiny little parasite can have on the brain. So instead of being afraid, the infected rodents, when smelling kitty urine, were actually getting turned on creating this kind of “Fatal Attraction” situation.

So enough about rodents

This passes on to us humans?! Yup, you betcha! Cuddling your little pussy (Hehe, pun intended) or cleaning out their litter box can be the reason you contract toxoplasmosis. And if you have contracted it then this could be the reason that pain, fear and sexual submission are what gets you off. It’s said that about a third of the world’s population are infected with the parasite. Most don’t even know as there are no real symptoms. If you want to get it checked out, go see your local doctor. And now I’m thinking about how that would play out!

Doctor: And how are you feeling? What has brought you here today?

Patient: Well I’ve been feeling super submissive and really want a Dominatrix to tie me up and whip me for hours. So yeah, can I get the test for toxoplasmosis?

No need to panic!

Of course, this is not the case for all submissives and those in to BDSM. There are always other factors that play vital roles in what arouses us. This is merely a pattern that these scientists have noticed in relation to toxoplasmosis. It does not mean that every person in the world who’s interested in BDSM is infected. This doesn’t mean you have to get rid of your beloved Mr Tibbles. There is no need to panic. There is enough to panic about in the world these days. I just found it a fascinating fact that I wanted to share with you all!
