Is a troll trying to ruin your day? Don’t let him

Life is not all smooth as a femdomme, and it will never be long before a troll pops up. He will slide into your mentions for the sole purpose of riling you up and ruining your day. Often he succeeds. It’s pretty unpleasant. Who wants a stream of negativity coming their way? It can be hard to get rid of a troll; they’re persistent little buggers. But you can put a brake on his activities, and limit the impact he has on you.

How does a troll act?

Trolling, for a femdomme, usually takes the form of insulting you for your profession and calling you a whore. Or your appearance will be insulted (you’ll suddenly be fat or ugly, even if he was raving about you moments ago). Trolling often comes as a result of him not getting what he wants from you, but may also come out of the blue from someone who has an issue with dominant women. And some people just get off on being assholes to complete strangers.

How to silence a troll

The best way of dealing with a troll, in my opinion, is not to block him. Blocking shows that he has annoyed you enough to elicit a response. He’s got to you. Job done, as far as he’s concerned. He can then come back for more with a different account.

No, the best response by far is to mute him, if you’re on a platform that allows it. The troll lives for attention, shouting away until someone makes the mistake of listening. Muting will drive him insane. You simply won’t know he’s there. He can merrily yell away to himself, getting no answer whatsoever for his efforts. Meanwhile, you’re blissfully unaware every time he rage-tweets you and can get on with your day.

Never engage with a troll

Above all, don’t engage with a troll. It never achieves anything. You won’t win him over, and you’ll be giving him oxygen. Learn to spot the signs, so that you don’t waste your time and energy on someone who thrives on being antagonistic.

So if someone tries to upset you, calls you fat and ugly, and keeps coming at you, ignore them. Remember that their opinion doesn’t matter. They’re just a stranger on the internet. Their existence may be irritating, but it’s part and parcel of being on social media. Mute if you can, block if you can’t, but don’t let him get to you or have any effect on your self-image.
