Is Tik Tok the right platform to discuss FinDom and FemDom?

Tik Tok is currently one of the most downloaded apps in the world. Especially now as everyone is bored at home due to COVID-19. But, it’s been around and has been very popular for a long time. Mainly used by teens aged 13-17, they make videos of them doing dances, pranks and other “challenges”. They then upload them for the world to see. But I’m not here to discuss cute dog videos or dance routines with you. I’m here to discuss an overlap of the adult FemDom and Findom world with an app predominantly used by teens.

When you type Findom into the search bar of Tik Tok the range of results is insane!

Self policing

While there are other sites I can use, I predominantly use Twitter for FinDom. It seems to be a platform that is pretty ethical and efficient at self-policing. When I say this, I’m referring to any person showing racist behaviour, aggression, and anything to do with minors – whether it’s a minor following your NSFW account or someone sharing inappropriate pictures of minors. Minors are blocked for their own protection and anyone sharing pictures of minors are instantly reported to Twitter. I really appreciate that the protection of minors is treated as a group responsibility. It’s a terrible thing to even have to think about safeguarding against, but unfortunately it does happen.

Tik Tok is a platform I’d heard the teens talk about last year, gave it a quick look and didn’t think too much about after that. All of a sudden, I started to read Tweets mentioning Tik Tok and an influx of underage girls trying out FemDom and FinDom. So, I felt I had to investigate and see what exactly was going on. I opened the app and typed into the search bar “findom”. The suggested results that came up were variations on findom such as: findomgoddess, findomqueen, findomaddicts, findomegoddess (not even spelt correctly) etc. I was really quite surprised at the amount of tags that were related to an adult subject, that I could easily access on an app I’d previously only heard about from teens..

Who’s watching?

The scariest thing to me is that some of these Tik Tok videos were of women giving advice through this platform on how to become a FinDomme. They talk about what websites are good to use to catch the most male subs, what language to use or to avoid, and how to market yourself to make the most cash. This is great advice for other adults who are interested in embracing their inner Domme. But how is this content being monitored in a way to protect minors? This is the real issue and it becomes dangerous territory, This is for both the teen and unknowing subs looking to serve a beautiful young woman.

As a teen, I remember that, while I wasn’t cash obsessed, I wanted to make a bit of my own money. I wanted to buy myself some nice clothes for the weekends, I wanted to have the latest phone and I wanted to be able to afford to go out to the teen discos, or, if I could get past the bouncers, the local night club. Teens have always wanted to act grown up and rush to grow up because “school sucks” or they want to get out from under their parents’ roof and be independent etc. This is nothing new. With increasing pressure on teens, due to social media, to have the best and most expensive clothes, jewellery etc the desire for money and to appear grown up is even more so than back when I was a teen. (I’m not that old by the way, things just change really quickly!)

Is a disclaimer enough?

Some, not all, of these FinDommes use the disclaimer announcing that they’re talking to their 18+ friends only. But, remembering back to myself as a teen, things that were meant for 18’s and over like: nightclubs, alcohol, rated R movies etc seemed even more appealing and interesting. If I was a teen seeing these beautiful women telling me that I can make money online and get admiration from men, but I wasn’t allowed to because I was under 18… You best believe I was going to listen up and give it a try! And I was quit a quiet, introverted kid!

How do you age verify who you’re sexting with?

The dangers this presents

The dangers in teens seeing these videos and deciding to join FinDom before they turn 18 are twofold. Firstly, we need to protect our minors from predators. Minors looking to set up FinDom accounts are putting themselves at risk from predators that comb the internet looking for young teens to manipulate. They can easily fall into a trap, blinded by the lure of money, and end up being the victim of abuse. While every teen thinks they are so grown up and know how to navigate the world of technology better than adults, they are still at risk. Also, they too can get in trouble for sharing child pornography. This includes sharing nude photos of themselves.

The other side of this situation is that, some genuine subs can unwittingly try to serve minors and end up in trouble. With teens having access to, and being so skilful with makeup, as well as looking so mature, these minors can often appear to be 19 and over. If a submissive takes a teens word that she/he is indeed of age, they can be accused of paedophilia and possession of porn containing a minor. This can be life-destroying for the submissive. They may be imprisoned and put on a sex register which would cause so many issues for them for an innocent mistake.

It just needs monitoring

Tik Tok is a fun platform; I love trying the dance challenges, watching the pranks people pull, and OF COURSE, watching all the cute puppy clips. I’m not saying the app itself is a danger. I’m just saying that we, as adult women, need to be careful of the content we share. We need to protect our minors and the scene. If there was a way of age verifying followers, then that could be a method of policing who is following your content. But the way the settings are currently, and because the predominant users of the app are minors, I just don’t believe it’s the right platform for discussing FinDom.

  1. Oh I’m not keen on this at all!! My 10 year old is obsessed with TikTok!! She’s not allowed her phone without my supervision but now I’m going to have to add extra parental blocks and watch her even more carefully!

  2. I mean, adults do use TikTok too… But I can see how the videos could end up being watched by the wrong target audience. Is there a way that TikTok could block certain content to minors based on the hashtags?

  3. Your Tik Tok account is often attached to your Facebook account which normally has your DOB. But that doesn’t stop teens coming across these videos or hashtags and searching…
