Let’s face it, 2020 has been a bit of a catastrophic year. The global pandemic has made everything harder. Simple tasks like going to the grocery store are awkward and difficult. It’s definitely not the way I imagined the year going. But we move on and we figure it out. One thing we have to be careful of is our Mental Health. Our Mental Health can even play a role in our kink life and that’s something we need to be aware of.
Our Mental Health is so important. It’s literally what makes us get up in the morning. If our Mental Health is struggling then it can really effect our interest in kink and fetish scenes. I’ve noticed that it can go in one of two ways. When our Mental Health is struggling we can either become totally disinterested in kink/sex or hyper sexual and seek to use kink as an escape from dealing with the bigger issue. Neither of these are particularly great way of dealing with the situation and need to be monitored.
How to look after your Mental Health?
When you’re going through a bad spell, try and acknowledge that. You’re not expected to be feeling fine all the time. Acknowledging how you’re feeling is the first part of the battle.
If you’re like me, and you’re an online SWer then it might be an idea to take a Mental Health day or two. Social Media can be very stressful and with so many people having such big egos it can be very over whelming. Take a day or two to just decompress. A lot of platforms have the option to schedule content to upload while you’re away (Even Twitter has the option to schedule Tweets via your browser). This way your subscribers will be kept interested while you’re taking your time out. You can even let them know that you won’t be answering your DMs for a day or two and give them a little teaser while you’re away.
If needed, talk to a professional. There are so many people and organisations out there that are happy to help. If you’re worried about going out to see a professional during a global pandemic then there are plenty of counsellors that are doing online sessions. These can vary from communicating via text messages, calls, or video calls. What ever you need. The most important thing is that you look after yourself. Take the time you need to care for you. Your play partners will understand. They want the best for you and if you take care of yourself then they know you’ll return a happier person to play with.
